A Referral Agency is often referred to as a “Domestic Referral Agency”

A Referral Agency registers Professional Caregivers then places them into the homes of the aging, ill, disabled and injured. It is a business model designed to promote total control for the client and independent professional caregivers alike.

A Referral Agency does not employ the caregivers

Because the caregivers work independently, they are issued an IRS 1099 at the end of the year from the agency. This also means that the agency cannot offer bonding insurance, professional liability insurance or workers compensation insurance. It sounds scary, but it’s not. Any client can request a caregiver to provide their own bonding and liability insurance. Worker’s compensation insurance can be easily engaged by the client through either a Home Owner’s Insurance policy or Renter’s insurance Policy, by getting a Rider in addition to the current coverage. The cost is usually between $80-$200 per year.

When a client submits a request to engage a professional caregiver, they do with the understanding that the caregiver is not the referral agency’s employee. When clients set up a regular schedule with this person, they will have already placed a service deposit into a trust account to ensure payment to their referral.

Trust Account

This non-interest bearing account is managed by the referral agency. The sole purpose for this type of account is to hold client deposits until the professional caregiver submits an invoice, approved by both parties, to receive payment for their completed job. The checks are issued by the referral agency to the professional caregiver on behalf of the client. This allows for safety in transactions in an otherwise vulnerable environment.

What about Taxes?

The Simple Answer is, It’s Up to You.

Love Right does not control the pricing for home care. Every client and Independent care professional will negotiate their fees together. In addition to that negotiation, Love Right will add an office fee (Administrative Fee) which is a range between 25%-40%. The total cost to the consumer is still substantially less than the employee based Home Care Agencies.

Referral Agencies are More Affordable

Caregivers that register with referral agencies decide what they charge to each client. They are not limited to the amount of time they can work or restricted from performing certain tasks. The cost stays low to the client because the agency does not have the added cost from the overhead of maintaining employees.

Once you’ve chosen the perfect match(es) for your care there’s only a couple things left to do. You’ll discuss the schedule and the cost of care with the care professional.
